Young people – we want you!

Brundibar: A Musical Tale will take over Burlington’s City Hall March 11-13 and 18-20, 2016. Our heroes, Aninku and Pepicek, need the help of 300 schoolchildren to out-sing the bully, Brundibár. To do this we will assemble a Singing Army of children ages 7 to 14. Please join us!

TO PARTICIPATE chorus members will need to learn 2 songs that are sung as the finale. Your child will portray one of the brave schoolchildren who help to drive out Brundibár.

OUR EXPECTATIONS FOR CHORUS MEMBERS: 

LEARN THE MUSIC: On your own time, you will need to learn the two finale songs by accessing the practice tracks and lyrics from our website. You will find the links here:

BRING YOUR COSTUME: Each chorus member is responsible for supplying the base layers of their costume. We will provide you with accessories to match the time period. Required is a light blue button-up shirt and navy knee-length skirt or knee-length shorts. Please wear solid, brightly colored socks (any color except white) and “dress” shoes — no sandals or sneakers. Knee socks are preferred.

PLEASE NOTE: If you do not have access to the necessary items, please contact Choral Director Rebecca Mack as soon as possible. We may be able to help you find these pieces, and we don’t want this requirement to keep anyone from participating.

ATTEND REHEARSALS: Chorus members are invited to attend an optional singing rehearsal on March 8th from 3:30-5:45 p.m. at Very Merry Theater, 333 North Winooski, Burlington. Chorus members must attend a mandatory dress rehearsal on Thursday, March 10 from 3:30-5:30 pm at City Hall, Contois Auditorium. Please enter through the stage door in the alley between City Hall and Burlington City Arts’ Firehouse Gallery.

ARRIVE AT CALL TIME: Chorus members arrive a half hour prior to each performance that you have signed up for fully costumed and with your songs memorized.

RECRUIT YOUR FRIENDS: Since we need a large number of kids, please invite your friends. Spread the word, carpool, and invite folks to the show. The more voices we fill City Hall with, the better. It will be an amazing experience.

PARENTS/GUARDIANS

SIGN UP AHEAD OF TIME: Sign up your child for a minimum of 2 performances. Performances are March 11, 12, 13 and March 18, 19, 20. SIGN UP HERE.

WAIVERS: Parents must submit a waiver via mail or email. The necessary form can be downloaded here, in PDF format.

FREE SEATS: By signing up for these performances your child will attend the show free of charge, be seated with lots of others kids their age, participate in the final 2 acts, and be part of a powerful, fun, and memorable event!
